Don Miguel Sectional
Born in Las Vegas, New Mexico in 1859, Miguel Antonio Otero, II lived a rich and varied life. After working as a banker, land broker, and livestock broker, Otero turned to politics, serving locally until 1892 when he was appointed as delegate to the Republican National convention. At the convention he met then Ohio Senator William McKinley, who, upon his election to the presidency in 1896, appointed Miguel Otero as Governor of the New Mexico Territory. He served from 1897-1906, after which he returned to banking, mining, and eventually writing.
